Current research focus:
I am currently helping in the development of a microfluidics diagnostic assay to detect ß-lactam resistance in gram-negative bacteria, in our laboratory's collaboration with the Silver Lake Research Center. I am involved in screening and testing monoclonal antibodies against various relevant bacterial lysate panels. This assay would supplement empirical treatment of UTIs, bring diagnostic capabilities to areas without access, and ideally reduce antimicrobial drug resistance at a community level.
I am currently applying to M.D./Ph.D joint degree programs to pursue my personal dream of working in medicine, and to contribute to translational or clinical research keeping first-hand considerations from what I observe in the clinic in mind. These considerations could be pragmatic such as what is feasible from a logistical perspective, or they could be socioeconomic or demographic disparities which are an underlying problem and need to be addressed both within and outside the clinic.
