Past research: For her dissertation work, Rein worked on the Identification of amino acid mutations that support the adaptation of highly pathogenic H5N1 influenza A viruses to humans
Current research: Reina is currently working with Professor Lee Riley under a large CDC grant, researching the antibiotic resistance and the molecular epidemiology of uropathogenic E.coli in northern California. Reina is specifically investigating the link between food, diet, and the spread of multidrug-resistant E.coli strains. This CDC grant is part of a larger initiatve to combat the rising rates of antimicrobial resistance.
